From August 22nd to 26th 2022, the 31st International Conference on Discrete Simulation of Fluid Dynamics (DSFD) in conjunction with the 10th Chinese National Conference of Lattice Boltzmann Method (LBM) and Applications was held successfully at Suzhou, China. The conference was organized by School of Mathematical Sciences and Institute of Advanced Study of Soochow University. It was sponsored by Paratera, Zhejiang Turing Institute, and China Ship Scientific Research Center. Professor Yuehong Qian from Soochow University and Professor Kai Hong Luo from University College London acted as the co-chairs of the conference. The conference was of an unprecedented scale, with 200 registered participants, including experts, researchers and students from China, the United Kingdom, France, German, the United States, Australia, India and so on. The conference was live streaming via KouShare online, with 31,545 views in total.

Prof. Xiaofeng Li, Vice president of Soochow University, gave a welcoming speech at the opening ceremony. Prof. Lyuhua Zhu, Deputy Head of International Office at Soochow University, Prof. Gang Sun, Head of Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics at Fudan University, Prof. Zhihong Hang, Deputy Head of School of Physical Sciences and Technologies at Soochow University, and Prof. Zhenhua Gu, Deputy Head of School of Mathematical Sciences at Soochow University, were invited to the ceremony. There were 31 invited talks, and 95 contributed talks throughout the conference, including the opening keynote talk, given by Prof. Shiyi Chen, fellow of Chinese Academy of Sciences, from Southern University of Science and Technology, the opening speech by Prof. Alexander Wagner from North Dakota University, the tutorial talks by Prof. Kun Xu from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Sauro Succi from IIT Rome, Harvard Univerisity, Prof. Paul Dellar from Oxford University and the closing keynote talk by Dr. Hudong Chen, Chief Scientific Officer from Dassult Systemes. Other invited presenters include Prof. Francois Dubois from Universite Paris-Saclay, Prof. Pierre Sagaut from Aix-Marseille University, Prof. George Vahala from William & Mary, Prof. Xiaowen Shan and Prof. Lianping Wang from Southern University of Science and Technology, Prof. Zhaoli Guo and Prof. Baochang Shi from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Prof. Moran Wang from Tsinghua University, Prof. Aiguo Xu from Institute of Applied Physics and Computational Mathematics, Prof. Limin Wang from Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof. Xiaodong Niu from Shantou University and other well-known experts and scholars both domestic and overseas. The topics of the conference covered a lot of theoretical and applied aspects of Lattice Boltzmann methods (LBM), for instance, the multiphase flow, flows in porous media, EHD & MHD, micro/nano flow, high performance computing, AI in LBM and so on.

DSFD was initiated by Professor Gary D. Doolen from Los Alamos National Laboratory back in 1986. It has become one of the most influential international academic conferences in CFD field, especially in LBM. The first Chinese National Conference of LBM and Applications was held at Southeast University back in 2013. It is held annually, and its scale gets enlarged every year. It has become the most significant academic platform in LBM research field in China.

The conference promoted the studies and research collaborations of LBM, and communications between domestic and foreign scholars. We hope participants can stay in contact and expand collaborations, and we look forward to seeing you next year at the 32nd International Conference on DSFD and 11th Chinese National Conference of Lattice Boltzmann Method and Applications.
